• Sketchbook
  • Portable paint set (or palette that you can fill with tube colors)
  • 1 or 2 brushes (ones you use the most)
  • Small palette or paper plate (unless it comes with your paint set)
  • Portable easel – if you have one. You can also work on your lap. En Plein Air Pro and Joe Miller Signature Field Easel are good choices for watercolor plein air.
  • Paper towels or rag
  • Painting surfaces – blocks, pads, or ¼ sheets (11x15”). If working on sheets of paper, bring a board and something to clip the sheets to it (bulldog clips work well)
  • Pencil. Mechanical pencils are more convenient, as you don't need to sharpen them.
  • Waterproof pen (Sakura Pigma Micron felt-tip pen is one example)
  • Water container
  • A bottle of water, just in case
  • Folding chair/stool
  • Hat
  • Drink (the hotter the better)
  • Snacks
  • iPod / MP3 player to get you in the zone :)
  • Camera – if you would like to take pictures for future reference
